Producing Legend Timbaland is the most recent artist to join Masterclass, an online learning platform that utilizes the expertise of celebrities, musicians, and skilled professionals to offer on-demand classes for those hoping to refine their skills or learn a new hobby.
This class as well as most of the other classes on their site consist of about 24 lessons–each one about 10 mins in length. The site currently has over 50 different courses in any category you can think of. A single class costs $90, although there is a $180 unlimited pass that gets you instant access to all the courses on the site.
I purchased this masterclass because I am a huge fan of Timbaland’s work (Justin Timberlake, One Republic, Jay-z) and wanted some insight into his process. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I don’t normally rave about about online tutorials but this was so well done I was inspired to blog about it. From the opening minutes you literally get to watch Timbaland produce a beat from scratch using only his mouth. It sounds a bit like a cliche, but in all honesty, whether you’re a beginner songwriter or a music producer with years of experience this Timbaland Masterclass has something for everyone.
“People always ask my process, what I do, and how I do it, and MasterClass gives me the opportunity to share that knowledge. I want to give all that I can to aspiring musicians and that’s what I came to MasterClass to do,” Timbaland says. “If people love music, they will love MasterClass.”
